I bought my first dog in 1991, a golden retriever, just to have a pet dog. A year later I met a person by coincidence, who went hunting with his Labradors. That was the start of what it is now, a passion. I had 3 goldens which I took with me for picking-up. Then I bought my first Labrador dog in 2001 by the Goodwood Kennel. With my first Labrador dog, Goodwood Zenith, I had a few
victories on workingtests and Field Trials. The real rapids in handling of Labradors came with Int. & FT. Ch. Enjoy des Quatre Cyprès. Enjoy gave me all a retriever can give his handler. Very nice dog who won many Field Trials in Belgium and abroad. The highlights are the victories with the Belgium team on the Coupe d’Europe in Denmark and France, and the victory of the Individual Challenge Cup (ICC) in Germany in 2010. But the most important in handling my dogs is to have
pleasure on the many moments that I’m together with them. On training, picking-up, Field Trials, ….
Since 2011 I judge on Belgian workingtests and Field Trials, and since 2012 I’m an official FCI judge.
I’m very glad that I’m invited on this event, and I hope that all of you will have also a good time as participant or organizer.
Ton Buijs (NL)
I grew up on the countryside in the south western part of the Netherlands. Since early days I’ve spent, a lot of, time in the field and shot my first pigeon when I was 9 years old. Hunting and dogs have been a theme in my life since then.
I was 18 years old when I got my first hunting-licence and my first Labrador Retriever. My dad didn’t allow me to get my licence without having a decent gun dog. So I’ve started to train my first retriever at 17 year age…
Since then I was able to have several FT winners and a few year ago I was able to make Starcreek Drummer (Lynn) up to Field Trial Champion Ft.Ch. Currently I also own three wonderful dogs named Kroonkennel’s Harvey (Lee), Kroonkennel’s Javelin (Lance) and Javelin of Dukefield (Luke). Lee is my favourite shooting companion and with Lance I entered last season 3 times in an open FT and gained 3 times 2nd. Luke is almost 1 year and just started basic training.
I am an FCI Field Trial judge for Retrievers and running my retrievers on our own shoot or at a well-organized Field Trial is my passion. I don’t believe in judging others without understanding how to train and handle your own retrievers successfully.
For working tests I will always use shooting- and field trial practice to set up my exercises.
I am looking forward to meet you all and judge your well trained retrievers and I am sure that the best teams will win.
