Professionally, I’m a design engineer, having worked in design engineering since 1987. I spent my longest time (22 years) as a senior engineer with a company who manufactured city cleaning equipment for the municipal industry sending machines all over the world – the brand known as “The green machine” can be found in many cities including Prague in the Czech Republic Over the years I’ve served as a committee member on a few of the Scottish clubs committee and currently I’m the field trial secretary for the Gamekeepers National Association – a club that holds both a novice and an open qualifying field trial in Scotland. I enjoy judging dogs as well as running them and have judged many field trials as a non-panel judge both in Scotland and England, I was also delighted to be asked to judge a field trial in Sweden for the Swedish gundog league back in Dec this season. I’m looking forward to coming to the Czech Republic to meet like-minded people and enjoy watching your dog’s work. |

Gundogs, retrievers in particular, have been a major part of my life for over 30 years, I bought my very first ‘proper’ Labrador puppy from a local man called Ronald Keanie. Ronald won the British IGL Retriever Championship in ‘89 and was also runner up in ‘90. All a long time ago now but that first dog taught me many things about working dogs and to this day I still get a thrill watching a dog take a line on a strong running bird through cover and return with its retrieve. In those 30 years I have competed and have been successful in winning within the Scottish Field Trials circuit. Similarly, in Working Tests I have competed in Team events and been in the awards at the CLA Game Fair, won the Open retriever competition at the Scottish Game Fair held at Scone Palace and also in many various Scottish Club events. Having recently retired as an ATM auditor with a manufacturing company I can now spend more time working my dogs on several big pheasant shoots in my area. I also enjoy taking training classes for keen amateurs, host live game training days and retriever Field Trials. Currently, I am Chairman for the Central Scotland Gundog Club and past Committee member in a number of Clubs in Scotland. Being on the British Kennel Club’s ‘B’ panel for Retrievers I have had the good fortune to have been asked to judge Working Tests along with Novice, All Aged and Open Qualifying Field Trials in both Scotland and England. I am looking forward to visiting the Czech Republic in June to see at first hand the good reports on the quality and ability of your dogs. |
